Qatar and Spain to collaborate on security arrangements for the FIFA World Cup 2030

Qatar and Spain have agreed to strengthen security cooperation ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2030, following a meeting between their interior ministers in Spain.

Qatar and Spain Review Security Cooperation

His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force “Lekhwiya,” met with Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez, Minister of the Interior of Spain, during his visit to the country.

The two officials reviewed bilateral cooperation and discussed ways to strengthen and develop relations, particularly in the security sector. They also exchanged views on several issues of mutual interest.

Letter of Intent Signed for FIFA World Cup 2030

Following the meeting, the Qatari and Spanish interior ministers signed a Letter of Intent on security cooperation between their respective ministries.

The agreement focuses specifically on security arrangements for the FIFA World Cup 2030, which will require close coordination among the host countries and their security authorities.

Building on Qatar-Spain Security Partnership

The latest agreement builds on the longstanding security relationship between Qatar and Spain. Both countries have previously worked together on areas including security cooperation, information exchange and major sporting-event safety.

Qatar’s Sheikh Khalifa also has extensive experience in major sporting-event security, having served as Commander of Security Operations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
